The Golden Closet is proud to honor the fashion and costume designers who create the iconic looks and styles of Hollywood’s leading men and women with the new “Celebrity Couture” section of our website. Click on the banner below to view the collection.

A centerpiece of our collection is an original Charles James design worn by actress Angelina Jolie in the film “The Tourist”. James has been referred to as “America’s First Couturier”, and the garment was one of a limited series he designed for the Samuel Winston line in the 1950’s. This award winning designer’s work has been featured in exhibitions and retrospectives at The Brooklyn Museum and Art Institute of Chicago, The Fashion Institute of Technology, and in the permanent collection of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.

Another featured item is the vintage black cocktail dress worn by actress Gloria Swanson. The garment was created by “Scaasi”, a favorite designer of Presidential First Ladies and members of Hollywood’s elite who created original garments for clients ranging from Mamie Eisenhower and Laura Bush to Joan Crawford and Lauren Bacall.

No discussion of Celebrity Couture would be complete without mentioning famed costume designer Edith Head, whose iconic designs clothed Hollywood’s most glamorous actors and actresses and defined contemporary fashion for several decades. Edith Head was a designer for both Paramount and Universal studios and won eight Academy Awards over the length of her career, more than any other female in the entertainment industry to date.

Ms. Head’s designs were worn by such noted actresses as Dorothy Lamour, Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and countless others. Several of her designs appear in our collection, such as Barbara Stanwyck’s riding coat worn in 1946’s “The Bride Wore Boots”, items created for Joanne Woodward in the 1963 film “A New Kind of Love”, and Betty Grable’s glamorous floor length gown worn in 1937’s “This Way Please”.

Our Celebrity Couture collection also includes men’s fashion designs, and when it came to class and style, no one did it “His Way” more than Frank Sinatra. Mr. Sinatra had couture garments custom tailored by the most skilled designers in the industry. One of the items in our Sinatra collection is his Jay Lord fedora worn in “The First Deadly Sin”. Jay Lord Hatters operated for over 50 years as the premier men’s milliner during the fashion’s peak, and was the last custom hat maker in NYC that provided custom designs to celebrity clients before transitioning into more economically practical mass produced designs in the late 1980’s.

Our collection also includes a pair of Sinatra’s boots created by Pasquale Di Fabrizio, the cobbler known as “The Star’s Shoemaker”, who has created footwear for such celebrities as Dean Martin, Michael Jackson, Sylvester Stallone, and numerous others.

We have several designs created by Sy Devore, known as “The Tailor To The Stars”, who created custom garments for all the members of the infamous Las Vegas “Rat Pack”, entertainers like Bing Crosby, Rock Hudson, Spencer Tracy, Nat King Cole, and even Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson. We currently feature two suits he designed for actor/comedian Jerry Lewis that were worn in the comedy classics “The Disorderly Orderly” and “The Geisha Boy”.

Anto Shirtmakers of Beverly Hills has provided exquisite custom tailored shirts to Hollywood’s leading men for over five decades, with clients ranging from Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Redford, to Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, and Daniel Craig in “Cowboys And Aliens”, and provided Johnny Depp’s “red carpet” shirt worn at the 2010 68^th Annual Golden Globes Award ceremonies earlier this year.

Also featured are premier menswear designs used on the hit television show “The Sopranos”, including Tony Soprano’s Ralph Lauren suit from Season 5, Paulie Walnut’s Pierre Cardin double-breasted suit, Johnny Sacrimoni’s Louis Dell Olio sports coat, and others.

The catwalks of Paris, Rome, London, and New York have always shared a special relationship with Hollywood studios in defining contemporary fashion around the globe. Couture designs worn by top celebrities become permanent landmarks in the history of fashion that inform and inspire designers to create the looks of tomorrow. This wooden prop gun was used by the character "Allen Gamble" portrayed by Will Ferrell in the new action comedy film "The Other Guys" also starring Mark Wahlberg, Samuel L. Tony Sopranos Escalade ESV to be offered through Julien's Auction's at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino June 26th 2010

The Golden Closet is pleased to announce the inclusion of their autographed “Tony Soprano” (James Gandolfini) white 2003 Cadillac Escalade ESV from “The Sopranos” in Julien’s Hollywood Legends Auction to be held at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday June 26th, 2010.

This rare signature vehicle from “The Sopranos” television series was Tony Soprano’s personal car and primary means of transportation as seen throughout the last four seasons of the series. The Escalade was acquired directly from Movie Time Cars Incorporated, the company that leased the vehicle directly to Soprano Productions Inc. and was responsible for all storage, maintenance, and delivery of the vehicles to filming locations during the entire course of production.

Mr. Gandolfini personally autographed both the driver’s side sun visor and passenger’s side dashboard of the vehicle after the production ended on the series. The car will be accompanied by photos of the actor signing the vehicle, as well as a copy of the original lease agreement with Soprano Productions Inc. and a signed certificate of authenticity from the CEO of Movie Time Cars verifying its use on the series.

The car will be auctioned on Saturday, June 26th and is available to bidders by phone, proxy, or in person at the live two-day event to be held at Planet Hollywood Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Escalade is currently on public display in front of the resort located in the heart of the Las Vegas strip. The vehicle is being offered from the private collection of The Golden Closet, a respected vendor of iconic memorabilia that has been in operation since 1996.

These items are original hand drawn production artwork by William Travilla, the Oscar winning designer perhaps best known for his work with Marilyn Monroe, including the signature white cocktail dress she wore in “The Seven Year Itch”.

The Profiles In History to be held in June 2010 will feature several key items from our collection, including an extremely rare Colonial Viper helmet worn by multiple principal characters in the original “Battlestar Galactica” television series. The Golden Closet’s Gotta Have It Auction Results Update Mar. 11, 2010

We are pleased to announce that Gotta Have It’s auction featuring rare music memorabilia items from The Golden Closet’s collection concluded yesterday evening and was a great success. Many of our iconic collectible wardrobe pieces continued to receive bids long after the “official” ending time of 9pm EST. The majority of our rare Michael Jackson pieces received bids within 24 hours of the auction’s launch on Mar. 10^th, which was the first time this had occurred in the history of Gotta Have It auctions, according to owner Ed Kosinski.

A few of our auction highlights are listed below:

-Our collection of Michael Jackson wardrobe did very well and the majority of items were sold far above their opening bid price. The most valuable piece turned out to be Mr. Jackson’s custom black jacket with red armband worn during several promotional appearances while in Europe, which received a final bid of $33,099.00. Michael Jackson’s shirt worn during live performances on the “BAD” tour sold for $30,138.00.

-The fur lined coat worn by Fergie (of Black Eyed Peas fame) in the video for her song “Glamorous” was another surprising standout from our music collection, and had an impressive closing bid of $13,190.40.

-Britney Spears vintage costume worn extensively in the video for the title track of her “Circus” album went for $11,400.00

-Some of the other items in our Pop Diva collection also did well, with video worn items from P!nk and Gwen Stefani both ending in the $8000 range. Other items from entertainers such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera went for prices ranging from $5000 and up.

-Our stage worn custom-made tuxedo jacket worn by Ray Charles went for $6000.00.

Other collectible items ended successfully at prices far above their opening bids. The Golden Closet has teamed with The Prop Store of London and several other organizations and individuals within the motion picture industry to create a collection of rare entertainment memorabilia to be offered to collectors through Ebay’s Giving Works program beginning on Sunday, Feb. 14th and ending on Sunday Feb. 21st, 2010.

All featured items are being offered with a starting bid of only $1.00 with no reserve and offer a unique opportunity for collectors to acquire impressive pieces of memorabilia while supporting a worthwhile cause. 100% of the net proceeds from all sold items will be disbursed to The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund via Ebay’s approved intermediary organization, Mission Fish.

The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund is a non-profit nonpartisan organization helmed by Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush that provides immediate assistance to the people of Haiti still recovering from the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that occurred on Jan. 12, 2010.

Fans of the epic gangster film “Scarface” starring Al Pacino as Tony Montana now have the opportunity to own one of the most iconic weapons ever seen used in motion picture history! This item is the legendary “SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND” replica grenade launcher used onscreen during the final gun battle sequence at the end of the film:

Since October is the Halloween month, our first featured item is a watch fob with chain that was worn by the evil vampire Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) in the hit film “Twilight” starring Edward Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. May has proven to be another busy month here at The Golden Closet. Exciting new entertainment memorabilia items are constantly being added to our collection of screen used celebrity wardrobe and props. We also had several items that were sold in the recent Profiles in History Auction that took place on March 1^st. We were saddened to hear about the recent passing of Mr. Dom Deluise, a true comedy legend that brought laughter to millions of film fans over the years and whose collaboration with Burt Reynolds produced some of the finest comedies of the 1970’s era. We are proud to offer collectors the chance to own memorabilia from two of Mr. Deluise’s funniest films, “Cannonball Run” and the film adaptation of “The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas”, both of which featured the actor’s long time friend and collaborator Burt Reynolds. Fans of deceased rap legend Tupac Shakur now have the opportunity to purchase signature wardrobe the artist wore in the 1997 film “Gridlock’d” starring Tim Roth. The film was one of Shakur’s last acting performances and was released only a few months after Mr. Shakur’s untimely death. The outfit consists of a vintage t-shirt and Armani Exchange pants.
